 Dechen Ling Buddhist Center is a meditation center in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Our spiritual director and resident teacher is Lama Gen Lobsang Choephel (also known as "Gen-la"), the abbot of Ganden Kachoe Monastery.
Dechen Ling provides teachings and empowerments within the Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Dechen Ling also offers support for the Buddhist community by assisting with private retreats, pujas (rituals), healings, and special ceremonies during Buddhist holidays.

Dechen Ling oversees the Ganden Kachoe Project, a charitable project working to re-establish a devastated Tibetan monastery in exile. Since 1999, Dechen Ling has also served as the Seattle organizers for the performing monks of the Gaden Shartse Monastery during their annual American tours.

Yamantaka and Vajrayogini Courses
On two consecutive Saturdays, October 8th and 15th, David will be offering teachings on how to conduct a Yamantaka retreat. You must have received the Solitary Hero Yamantaka empowerment to attend these teachings.
Beginning on Saturday November 19th at 11:00 am, David will be giving a detailed commentary on the generation and completion stages of Vajrayogini based on his new book The Extremely Secret Dakini of Naropa, which is a translation of Pabongkha Rinpoche’s commentary to Vajrayogini. The teachings will the continue on Saturday's at 11:00 am. It will take several months to cover the entire commentary, yet if you are a registered attendee, and can’t make it to every teaching, we will be offering audio podcasts available to listen to at your leisure. To attend this course you must have received the empowerment of Vajrayogini.

An Extension of Gratitude

 As I sit still in the wake of the 8 day visit of the Ganden Shartse monks I am struck by not only the beauty of the monks and lamas but of those who supported and participated in these events. You often hear of so much drama surrounding big Dharma events—however this was not the case with the monks visit to Seattle. There were no power-plays or struggle for recognition, no backbiting and name-calling, or any temper-tantrums. Instead we all just basked in joy of having the monks visit Seattle and Dechen Ling. There was one person who was concerned that his child was upsetting some of the participants at one of the empowerments and I had to break the news to him, I took his hand and said “I am so sorry, didn’t you hear? Buddhas work for the welfare of all living beings except children!” He laughed and felt reassured. It is easy to get wrapped up in the excitement and forget that all of this is meant to be of benefit to others. It is said that even the breath of an enlightened being is for the welfare of others and it is all too easy to believe that there is something more important that benefiting others. Fortunately this wasn’t the case as the monks spread their message of love and compassion throughout their stay.
On behalf of Dechen Ling I would like to extend our deep gratitude to the Seattle Asian Art Museum, the Sakya Monastery, the Fremont Arts Council, and all of the participants for your generous support. I hope that we have created the causes to have the monks return to Seattle again in the future and that all of you will once again reach into your hearts and extend your support.
